Cypress Texas Real Estate
|
|
|
About 20 miles northwest of Houston sits Cypress, Texas. The city is located in Harris County right off Highway 290. The history of this Texas town is interesting indeed, and many changes have occurred since the 1800s when it was being inhabited. Now, Cypress, Texas happens to be a suburb of Houston.
History of Cypress, Texas
Atakapan Indians inhabited the area that is now known as Cypress, Texas. However, as other settlers began occupying the same area, the Indians found other places to live. Many Anglo-Saxons and Germans found the area of Cypress, TX, appealing and set up their homes in the area during the 1840s. The first school was built in Cypress in 1884. Growth was slow but steady in this laid back part of Texas. However, when oil was discovered off the coast of Texas, Cypress really began to grow and become populated.
The main occupations of residents in Cypress, Texas, however were not necessarily related to oil. Instead, most individuals were dairy farmers or rice growers. In the 1950s the area became more suburban and the farming lifestyle began to subside somewhat.
Cypress, Texas Schools
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District serves the area. This is Texas’ third largest school system.
There are currently eight high schools in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. However, there are plans and construction taking place for two additional high schools to open in 2008. Cypress is also home to the Cypress-Fairbanks College.
Cypress Real Estate
The greater Cypress area has really grown over the years due to its proximity to Houston and its more affordable living. In fact, real estate development in the Cypress area has really increased over the last year and looks as if it will continue to do so. Being so close to Houston makes the area perfect for affluent development. However, some of the older residents of Cypress resist the change because they want to maintain the integrity and laid back atmosphere of the area.
In fact, of the top 100 highest income urban areas in America, the Cypress urban area ranks 50th. This shows there is plenty of growth and lots of families calling Cypress real estate home.
Cypress, TX Attractions
No matter whether you live in or visit Cypress, you will be impressed with the many attractions. Some of the most popular are the many golf courses, the Northwest Forest Conference Center with a life size Alamo replica, as well as the nation’s oldest dance hall that is still in business. The dance hall is called the Tin Hall and has had its doors open since 1889.
