If you are looking for Hockley, Texas, you can find it about five miles southeast of Waller. The community of Hockley is located in Harris County and has yet to incorporate. The community sits on state Highway 6 and US Highway 290 and is less than 40 miles northwest of Houston.

History of Hockley, Texas
George Washington Hockley established the community of Hockley, Texas back in 1835 and was obviously the inspiration for the area’s name. By 1857 the community had railroad service provided by the Houston and Texas Central Railway. The following year a post office was established.

The community began to grow slowly but surely. In 1892 the community boasted two general stores as well as a hotel and by 1896 a cotton gin, four saloons, and an additional general store called Hockley, Texas home.

Commerce continued to find its way to Hockley, Texas, although it was not exactly a hub of activity. Two schools, a church, gristmill, and stock breeders set up shop in Hockley. And, while the population remained small throughout the 1900s, the end of the century saw a huge increase in the number of businesses in the area.  However, the official population remained small.

No matter how often you like to play golf, if you play in Hockley, Texas you can choose from a different course almost every time you play and you don’t have to drive very far! Some of the courses are private and many are public and they differ between nine holes and 18 holes. But, if you are a golf lover you won’t find any better place to be than Hockley, Texas.
