Located in Montgomery County, Montgomery is known for one important thing, the birth of the Texas flag. Or more specifically, the birth of the Texas Longhorn flag. Another claim to fame for Montgomery is that it was county’s first county seat in the third county established in the Republic of Texas. In 1826 this town began as a trading post and by 1837 it was chartered.
Montgomery, Texas, is located in the western part of Montgomery County and borders the Sam Houston National Forest. When you arrive at the junction of FM 149 and Texas 105 you will run right into Montgomery, Texas. The town is about 50 miles northwest of Houston and is 15 miles west of Conroe.
